Sde Boker

A hospitality experience in a desert atmosphere
A hospitality experience in a desert atmosphere

Sde Boker is a kibbutz in the Negev where one of Israel’s historical heritage sites – the desert home of David Ben-Gurion is.

The kibbutz is located in the center of the desert, about 30 miles north of Mitzpe Ramon and about 40 miles south of Beer Sheva.

The area is full of various attractions, hiking trails, lookouts, and beautiful desert scenery.

The desert is one of the magical and peaceful places that the State of Israel has to offer and is the ultimate area for a relaxing vacation.

Lodging

Kedma Hotel
The hotel is located in Sde Boker, walking distance from the desert home of David Ben-Gurion.

This Nabatean khan-style hotel offers a unique Negev hospitality experience in the perfect place for local excursions.

We stayed at a hotel on a half-board basis in a “Kedma” room, a spacious and luxurious room on the ground floor.
The room has a double bed, sitting area, gorgeous balcony, and bathroom.
Outside the room, there is a front courtyard for hotel guests with a seating area surrounded by plants and flowers.

The service at the hotel is of a very high standard.
The hotel has an outdoor pool, a decorated dining room, and a variety of activities and various attractions such as a spa that offers a wide range of types of treatments, yoga, various extreme activities, guided tours, and of course you can visit the desert home of David Ben-Gurion.
The hotel has a lookout that is worth visiting during the sunset and in the evenings a fire is lit in the seating areas of the pool complex, which creates an authentic feeling of a desert khan.

The hotel restaurant offers varied food.
In the morning – a dairy meal with a custom-made omelet stand, bread and pastries, cheeses, and salads.

In the evening – a meat meal with many salads, fish, types of meat and side dishes.
My recommendation is that when booking the hotel book a half-board package because there are no restaurants in the hotel area and the food that is served at the hotel is terrific.

We spent most of the vacation in our pool, spa, and suite. The experience in the Kedma Hotel was unique and authentic, especially suitable for anyone who loves the desert serenity.

Attractions

The desert home of David Ben-Gurion
David Ben-Gurion, the first prime minister of Israel, owned a house in Kibbutz Sde Boker as part of his Agenda to settle the Negev.

Today, after Ben-Gurion passed away, the house has become a museum that is available to the public to visit.
Since 1976, the place has been managed by the Ben-Gurion Heritage Institute, which conducts guided tours and holds exhibitions and events.
The museum has various exhibitions and has video art exhibits, historical exhibits, pictures, and stories.

Visiting the desert home of David Ben-Gurion is a historical and interesting experience and I recommend all of you who haven’t visited there yet to go visit.

Jeep Tour
One of the extreme attractions in the desert is a tour of a guided jeep in the area.
There are several options for jeep tours in terms of routes, times, and different activities.

The trip we booked lasted about three hours and included a wonderful desert route, a stop at a lookout point at sunset, and a picnic which included some refreshments, hot drinks, cakes, and cookies.
